Makenzie Thursby, LCSW
So happy you’re here!
I’m Kenzie (she/her), founder of Embers Bloom!
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and I believe therapy works best when it prioritizes the human connection first. My goal is to create a space together that is grounded, compassionate, and authentic. I’ll validate your experiences while also gently challenging old patterns, core beliefs, and stories that keep you feeling stuck.
My clinical approach is rooted in trauma-informed and strengths-based care. I recongize our relationships, identities, families, culture, and socio-political environment shape our experiences. My work is framed by feminist, intersectional, social justice, and system perspectives. Our struggles don’t exisit in a vacuum, and neither does healing.
I don’t believe therapists are always required to be a “blank slate.” I show up as a real human. That means sometimes there’s humor, directness, swear words, and often some gentle accountability. I will absolutely laugh at your dark humor, and then spend the next few minutes getting curious about what that humor was protecting. I don’t pretend to have it all figured out, but I do believe its a little more figureoutable together.
Outside of being a therapist, you’ll likely find me with a cup of coffee or can of crisp diet coke, hiking or traveling with my spouse and our dog, reading (yes, audio books count!), or tackling another home renovation project. If we meet virtually, you may find my dog making a guest appearance! As a queer-identified therapist, I know how meaningful it can be to have a safe place to land. Whether you’re exploring your identity, looking for a therapist who understands the importance of affirming care, or simply seeking a provider who aligns with your values, this is a space where your whole self is welcome.
While I work with a variety of concerns, I primarily support adults navigating anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, overthinking, ADHD/neurodivergence, identity exploration, life transitions, and the impacts of trauma.
Embers Bloom StoryEmbers Bloom didn’t actually start as what is known today.
When I first started practicing, it was simply Bloom Therapy. As the vision evolved, I realized there was much more to it. While I absolutely believe people can grow and heal, I don’t just believe therapy is always about blooming.
Sometimes healing looks like resting, surviving, grieving, setting boundaries, feeling angry for the first time, or just making it through the moment.
Sometimes growth is learning to sit with yourself without trying to fix everything, and choosing self-compassion over perfection. Sometimes it’s finding that tiny little ember in us, that never went out.
That’s when Embers Bloom was born.
